Dear Prospective Candidate,

  • Thank you for expressing your interest in pursuing theological studies at HKLTS. We are delighted to welcome you to our seminary. HKLTS is a mission-oriented theological institution offering a broad spectrum of academic programs, ranging from BA through MA, MDiv, and MTh to PhD, in several different languages such as English, Korean, Chinese, and Russian. The integrated Master of Theology (MTh) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program you are interested in is a research-based pathway that requires a five-year, full-time commitment.
  • ● The MTh is a two-year, 120-credit program comprising 12 subjects (10 credit points each).
  • ● The PhD is a three-year, 240-credit program structured across six semesters (40 credit points per semester), with no coursework, and focused entirely on supervised original research.
  • ● Together, the MTh–PhD programs provide students with a structured academic pathway, enabling them to progress from advanced theological study to independent, original research.
  • ● These programs aim to Equip Christian leaders, theologians, and educators for meaningful engagement with global theological issues, contribute to the production of original theological knowledge, and elevate the institution’s role as a hub for research, reflection, and dialogue.

Qualification Required

  • ● Master of Divinity (MDiv), Bachelor of Theology (BTh), or an equivalent qualification for entry into the MTh.
  • ● Master of Theology (MTh) or an equivalent qualification for entry into the PhD.

  • a) Letters of RecommendationTwo letters, including at least one from a doctoral qualification holder.
  • ● Referees must send their letters directly from their official email addresses to admissions@hklts.education.
  • ● Letters submitted by applicants will not be accepted.
  • b) Academic TranscriptsComplete records of prior academic achievements.
  • c) Expression of InterestA written explanation of your motivation for applying and your objectives for the course.
  • d) Prospective Supervisors’ CVs or RésumésCurrent academic or professional curriculum vitae.
  • e) Financial Assistance Form (if applicable) Candidates must request the form and clearly explain why financial assistance is needed.
  • Applications without these documents will not be processed.

Important Dates

  • ● The new academic year begins every February.
  • ● Please ensure that your application and all required documents are submitted by the end of each November.

Once your application is received, it will be reviewed by our Research Committee. You will then be informed about the next steps, including a panel interview and instructions on accessing our school portal to begin using online resources in January.

HKLTS offers up to 100% tuition-free programs for pastors and leaders serving in mission fields, particularly in Central Asia, Southeast Asia, and African countries. Only a small administrative fee is charged each semester, while tuition is fully covered by scholarships.

“Accreditation” 

HKLTS is currently approved (as of September, 2025) as an associate member of ATA (Asia Theological Association).  

From the beginning, HKLTS has been officially registered with the Hong Kong government and operates under formal recognition. 

In addition, HKLTS maintains membership with AETA, a mission-focused accrediting body for seminaries, further affirming our commitment to excellence in theological education. HKLTS’s chairman serves as the executive director of AETA.

Certificates and diplomas issued in partnership with our cooperating institutions are accredited by their respective accrediting agencies. For students requiring official recognition of their diploma, an apostille may be obtained through the Hong Kong court.
